Matariki Kite Day
Bring your whaanau to Turtle Lake Hill for a morning of kites, creativity, and connection. Kite Day is a chance to slow down and spend time together.
Make and decorate your own manu tukutuku, then send it up into the Matariki sky. For Māori, the kite has always been a way of reaching upward, a thread between earth and sky, between those who came before and those still to come.
There's plenty to take in across the day. Tamariki and pakeke can learn the craft of traditional kite-making, get a close look at Peter Lynn's paper kites, and watch the sky fill with colour as kites of all shapes take flight.
It's a relaxed, easy day out, and everyone is welcome. Free kite for the first 600 kids.
Free public event. Bring your whaanau and friends.
