Enclosed Gardens and Gallagher Visitor Centre will be closed on Wednesday 25 December. Reopening at 10am Thursday 26 December.
Outer areas including Rogers' Rose Garden, Turtle Lake, Rhododendron Lawn and the Children's Playground remain open.

Travelling to Hamilton Gardens by car: 

Located close to the Waikato Expressway and nestled in the heart of Hamilton City, Hamilton Gardens are conveniently accessible.

  • For drivers, free parking is available at both Gate 1 and Gate 2 carparks. Consider using the Gate 2 carpark if you're looking for a less crowded option.
  • If you’re heading north on Waikato Expressway, choose the Hamilton exit just north of Tamahere. Follow the signs to Cobham Drive/State Highway 1. Hamilton Gardens is clearly signposted.
  • If you’re heading south on Waikato Expressway, choose the Hamilton Gardens exit and follow the signs.

Travelling to or from Hamilton Gardens by bus:

  • Bus Route 17 will bring you to Hamilton Gardens from Hamilton Transport Centre or any stops along the bus route.
  • Bus route pick up/stop at Hamilton Gardens is at Gate 1 carpark
  • Tour bus parking is also available at Gate 1. Campervans and other large vehicle parking is available at the Gate 2 Camellia Carpark.

Pedestrian and cycle routes to Hamilton Gardens:

  • Walk or cycle alongside the Waikato River to Hamilton Gardens from the city centre along Te Awa River Ride, a bicycle, wheelchair-accessible, and pram-friendly walkway.
  • Take a short walk or cycle from Hamilton East. Find out more about Hamilton's shared trails.
  • If walking or cycling from Hamilton CBD or Hamilton East, we recommend using the Sillary Street underpass which comes out on the Governor's Green near Gate 2.

Where to park 

Hamilton Gardens has 3 free carparks, all accessible off Cobham Drive, State Highway 1, Hamilton. Accessibility parking spaces are available at both carparks. Both carparks can get busy at peak times between 11.00am – 3.00pm on summer weekends and public holidays.

Gate 1 carpark – get directions

  • 210 carparks + overflow parking.

Gate 2 carpark – get directions

  • 74 carparks in Rose carpark + 210 carparks in Camellia carpark.
