As part of the maintenance of Hamilton Gardens there is a need to control rabbit numbers as the animals eat ornamental plants and dig up lawns.
From 17 October 2019 to 17 March 2020, Hamilton City Council's pest control contractor will undertake fumigation of rabbit burrows using magnesium phosphide (Magtoxin) in various areas of Hamilton Gardens. This is generally considered the most humane form of control.
Access to these areas will be restricted while the operation is in progress and signs erected on the perimeter of the fumigation area. Staff members will also be on hand. This will not take place within the off-leash dog exercise area.
Pest control operations are permitted under The Reserves Act 1977 and are a fundamental part of Council's park management. If you would like more information, please contact Hamilton Gardens 07 958 5887.
