We are excited to let you know that Hamilton Gardens will re-open on Friday 15 May. The Enclosed Gardens will be open daily 10am to 4pm.
Things are going to be quite different here under Level 2. To manage visitor numbers and physical distancing, there will be a one-way route through the Enclosed Gardens to keep people spaced apart. The number of visitors allowed at one time will be limited. Your contact details will be collected at the entrance to the Enclosed Gardens.
- Please go through the Enclosed Gardens in a one-way clockwise loop
- Follow the directional arrows and keep left at all times
- Because of steps and steep paths, the large loop route is not accessible for wheelchair users, mobility scooters, or pushchairs
- The nearest toilets are located by the Gate 1 carpark. There are no toilets within the Enclosed Gardens.
- Hamilton Gardens is a work in progress! Some gardens may be closed temporarily for maintenance or have restricted access due to the one-way loop
We're looking forward to Hamilton Gardens being open to the public again but we ask that you bear with us as we all get used to this 'new normal' way of operating!
Due to the lockdown closure, our gardening team is about six weeks behind schedule. There is a lot of catching up to do so we can get Hamilton Gardens back to its usual high standards.
The Indian Char Bagh Garden is currently closed for extra maintenance which is urgently required. We missed the usual turnover date when all plantings are refreshed and the Municipal Nursery is working to restock the flowers which didn’t survive the lockdown period. The Chinoiserie Garden is also closed.
Other gardens may also be closed temporarily. Signage will be in place with the current one-way route available to visitors.
Information Centre and other facilities
From Friday, the Information Centre will be open from 10am to 4pm seven days a week. The counter now has a clear perspex screen in place to further protect visitors and our staff. All items will be available as usual but we are only able to accept EFTPOS transactions – no cash sales. Our Gift Shop stocks a lovely range of local and New Zealand made products so please consider us when shopping for a gift for a loved one or for yourself! Unfortunately during Level 2 we are not able to offer hire of mobility scooters or wheelchairs.
The playground, public toilets, carparks, and Hamilton Gardens Pavilion will also re-open. Extra cleaning services will be in place and two-metre physical distancing will be expected at all times.
In line with Level 2 guidelines event spaces are available to hire for functions up to 100 people. Please contact our bookings team on 07 958 5940 or firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss safely hosting your event in the Gardens or one of the meeting spaces in the Pavilion.
The Hamilton Gardens Cafe is open daily 9.30am to 4pm from Friday 15 May. River boat tours on the Waikato River Explorer will be running from Saturday 16 May.
