From 11.30am to 2.30pm
Turtle Lake Hill (Car Park 1), Hamilton Gardens
Welcome to this free fun event hosted by the Friends of Hamitlon Gardens. We encourage families (Whanau) to share lessons in kite making and flying (Manu tukutuku and Peter Lyn paper kites). These activities provide many opportunities to discuss the significance of Matariki, the Maori New Year.
Each child will receive a free kite and a sausage sizzle. Spot prizes will be given during the day and at 2pm prizes will be presented to the oldest kite, the best handmade/creative/original kite, the largest kite, and the most dedicated kite flyer.
We have two Kite Making gazebos dedicated to teaching kite making: Manu tukutuku and Peter Lyn paper kites.
