Gardens Café and Lakeside Restaurant

The Gardens Café is open every day from 9am to 5pm in winter, and from 9am to 6pm in summer, although there is some flexibility, particularly if a group visit is notified in advance.  The Cafe offers a comprehensive range of snacks, ice creams, morning and afternoon teas and light lunches.

The Lakeside Restaurant is open from 12noon to 3pm with a changing seasonal menu. The Lakeside Restaurant is an ideal venue for late afternoon and evening functions and it provides a catering service for functions held within Hamilton Gardens, particularly those held in the Hamilton Gardens Pavilion. Special Needs

People with disabilities

Parking for people with disabilities are reserved in each of the main carparks.
Two Mobility Scooters are available for hire from the Hamilton Gardens Information Centre. The charge is $5.00 per hour and a refundable bond of $20 is required. The time limit is two hours and instructions for their use can be given as required. Access by mobility scooter into the enclosed Paradise Gardens is restricted but most other paths in the gardens are accessible.

A Wheelchair is also available from the Information Centre for a small donation, which is passed on to the NZ Red Cross.
The scooters and wheelchair are held at the Information Centre, located next to the main pavilion and central court area.
The mobility scooters and wheelchair can be booked in advance by contacting:
The Hamilton Gardens Information Centre
Phone (07) 838 6782
Email hamilton.gardens@hcc.govt.nz
PO Box 4268, Hamilton.

Most paths in the gardens are at less than a one in twelve grade. However the paths up to the Camellia Carpark and Victorian Flower Garden are steeper and we advise parking in the Camellia Carpark accessible from Gate 2 for easier access to the top areas of Hamilton Gardens.

The toilets next to the Turtle Lake Carpark, accessible from Gate 1, are wheelchair accessible and there is a toilet for disabled people in the Hamilton Gardens Pavilion.
The Café and Restaurant are accessible to wheelchairs and scooters and provide accessible toilet facilities.

Children

A playground is located next to the Rose Garden Carpark from Gate 2.
A baby change table is available in the Hamilton Gardens Pavilion.
Special provision for toddlers and babies can be made at the Gardens Café and Restaurant.

Parents of young children are discouraged from letting young children wander unaccompanied around Hamilton Gardens. Apart from the dangers inherent in any public park there are several water features and steep banks.
If staff find a lost child they will take them to the Information Centre.
